(To the Editor.) - Sir,—The chairman of the Wheat Research Institute is reported ,in a- paragraph in last Friday’s Daily News a* having stated that although ’ there are similar institutions in most countries the position in New Zealand was unique, in that the necessary funds .for ’ its maintenance were provided' by the wheatgrowers, fiourmillers and - bakers combined. He omitted to add that the unfortunate consumers had to carry a large share of the burdem In an issue of your paper published in May, 1932, is contained’ a summary of the first annual report, of the workings of the Institute in New-Zealand; After specifying the various levies, on the grower, miller and baker," these ’ levies being fixed by Act of Parliament, the report adds: “The levies,’which'amount to about £2250 per annum, are subsidised pound for pound by the Government.” The word “about” seems to allow con. siderable margin on which to come anV go.—l am, etc., H.M.
