SCRAP METAL FOR JAPAN
NEW ZEALAND EXPORTS £25,000. REINFORCING FOR. BUILDINGS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 25. The total export of scrap metal from New Zealand to Japan this year is 21,577 tons to the value of £25,091. The Asama Maru, loading at Wellington, is taking 5500 tons, including 2700 tons from here. The Nankura Maru will take 500 tons next month. It is stated that practically all the scrap purchased is used for reinforcing concrete. A Japanese private company is buying metal and selling it to strengthen concrete structures, as the Japanese law now requires. Some of the metal is being used in the building of new ships.
