ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS

OPENING OF CONFERENCE.

INTERFERENCE WITH RADIO.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night.

The annual conference of the New Zealand Power Board and Supply Authority Engineers’ Association opened this morning. In welcoming the delegates the president, Mr. G. Lauchlan, remarked that despite rhe difficult times the electrical industry had developed and must continue to do so. Declaring the conference open the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, said the industry was potentially the biggest in New Zealand.

Discussion took place on the subject of radio interference and means of reducing such trouble. The conference gave hearty support to a report by a special committee set up at the last conference recommending that legislation be sought for drawing up and enforcing suitable regulations. Mr. Lauchlan said it was suggested the P. and T. Department should be the clearing house for interference complaints and should investigate them and allocate the responsibility for remedying them or improving the position, co-operating as far as possible with electric supply and tramway authorities and users of electrical equipment.
