COMMITTEE GRANTS LICENSE. The only business dealt with by the quarterly meeting of the Stratford Licensing Committee yesterday was an application by Thomas Alexander Main for the renewal of the. publican’s license for the Whangamomona Hotel, which was granted after Main affirmed that he was relinquishing his interest in the hotel in favour of Lionel Claude Buckenham, who was licensee of the hotel that was burned at Waverley recently. Mr. A. Coleman, who appeared for Main, said the application was adjourned at the annual meeting of the committee, and since then Main had been fined £2 for a breach of the Licensing Act. It was a comparatively minor offence, but Main had now sold his interest in the hotel and an application was before the committee for a temporary transfer of the license. That could not be done till the license was issued. Sergeant T. Kelly asked if Main would state on oath that he was relinquishing his interest in the hotel. Main went into the box and said he had entered into an agreement with Buckenham to take over the hotel about September 17. “On those grounds I have no objection to the license being granted,” said the sergeant. The application was granted by the following committee: Messrs. W. H. Woodward, S.M. (Chairman), J. B. Hine, W. H. H. Young and A. Lilley. NON-HANDICAP GOLF MATCH. STRATFORD LADIES’ CLUB DRAW.
