BRITISH POTATO IMPORTS
AGREEMENT WITH EXPORTERS. LIMIT PLACED ON QUANTITIES. British Official Wireless. Rec. 5.5 p.m* Rugby, Aug. 31. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. W. E. Elliot, had an interview to-day with representatives of the potato exporting countries with a view to emergency action for the regulation of imports pending the coming into operation of the home marketing schemes and a permanent system for the regulation of potato imports. It has been arranged that during the four months September to December imports from the Netherlands and Belgium are not to exceed 8000 tons and 250 tons respectively. Other foreign exporting countries which do not usually export potatoes to the United Kingdom market at this time of the year have been asked to refrain from doing so for the remainder of the year.
