TALK OF FEBRUARY SESSION. REVISION OF THE TARIFF. Cabinet is believed to be considering a meeting of Parliament early next year, chiefly to enable it to revise the tariff in the light of the report of the Tariff Commission (says the Wellington Dominion.) So far the commission has taken evidence at Wellington and Auckland. It has yet to visit Christchurch and Dunedin, to be followed by a final sitting at Wellington. The preparation of the report itself will be a considerable task, and as matters stand at present it seems that it will be very near the end of the present year before the report is in possession of the Government'. Parliament is due to assemble on September 21, and it has been suggested that next year's session might commence either in February or March instead of at the normal time of June. If it is decided to meet as early in the coming year as February, the Government might consider it advisable simply to adjourn the coming session and thereby avoid a second Address-in-Re-ply debate and the inevitable delays associated with the opening of Parliament. Such a course was taken last year. Parliament met in September with the intention of dispatching all its business before Christmas, but when this was found to be impossible a seven-week adjournment’ was taken early in December.
