WANGANUI COLLEGE OLD GIRLS.
BRANCH FORMED AT WAVERLEY. Former pupils of the Wanganui Girls’ College held a social afternoon in St. Stephen’s hall, Waverley, yesterday with the object of forming a local branch of the Old Girls’ Association. Miss J. Currie, one of the earliest old girls of the school and well known by all other pupils, young or old, travelled from Wanganui (in the absence of the president of the association, Miss Newcombe), to preside. Miss Bassett (secretary of the Wanganui association) and Miss Werry were also present. The following officers were elected: President, Miss D. Roberts; vice-presi-dents, Miss N. Mathieson and Miss R. Alexander; secretary, Miss J. McGregor. Musical items were contributed by Misses P. Belton, J. Alexander and I. Sutherland. A novel competition was won by Miss Bassett. Afternoon tea was served. e SUCCESSFUL WAVERLEY CONCERT. PATEA GUIDES AND SCOUTS. An attractive concert programme was presented in the Waverley Town Hall by the Patea Guides and Scouts, assisted by a talented band of adults. The concert was In aid of the Guides and Scouts funds. The programme was: Haka of welcome, Scouts; tableau, “The Old Union Jack , song, Mrs. Ingley; “The History of the Formation of the Union Jack ; song, “Blowing Bubbles,” Miss Fitzsimmons; musical monologue, Mr. S. Pauling; song, Mr Naismith; character sketch, Miss Naismith; tableau, Cubs; song and dance, “Gather ye Rosebuds,” Guides; playette. Scouts; song, Mrs. Ingley; “Our Farm, Scouts and Guides; humorous sketch, Mr. T. Pauling; Girl Guides' pageant.
In thanking those present for their support the Rev. Wilson said the object of the concert had been not so much to make money as to throw light on the movement to which they belonged. There was at present, he said, a very fine Scout troop at Waverley but he hoped that in the near future Guide, Brownie and Cub troops would also be formed. WAVERLEY LADIES’ GOLF. DRAW FOR JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. Following is the draw for the second round of the Rawhitiroa ladies’ junior championship:—Mrs. Worthington v. Miss D. Robinson, Mrs. Cave v. Mrs. S. Knuckey, Mrs. Bootten v. Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Robertson a bye. The winner- of the eclectic competition for the Knuckey trophy was Mrs. D. Knuckey.
