£240 AVAILABLE FOR CHARITY

MAYORAL BALL RESULT. GREAT FINANCIAL SUCCESS. The outstanding financial success achieved by the New Plymouth Mayoral ball was disclosed at a meeting of the committee last night, when . a balance sheet was' submitted showing' that £247 5s 7d would be available for relief purposes. The balance sheet .showed that recepits from all sources totalled £393 10s 6d and expenditure £lOO 15s. In addition it was stated that there were goods left to the value of between £2 and £3. . It was decided to at once allocate £230 as follows: New Plymouth Relief Committee £ll5, unemployed sick fund £57 10s, special hospital fund £57 10s. The balance will be held for a while in case any extra accounts come in and will then be allocated on the same basis. The Mayor, Mr. E. R. C. Gilmour, expressed appreciation of the result, which was a great credit to the people. He also paid tribute to the indefatigable work of the committee and of the ladies which had contributed so much to the success of the ball, which exceeded all expectations. He also thanked those who made gifts or gave' their services. The chairman, Mr'. J. Corkill, said he had never seen a committee work more harmoniously. Several spoke in praise of the efforts of the Mayor in organising the ball, a good deal of the success of which was due to his driving force. Praise was also due to the chairman and the joint secretaries. The Mayor- stated that from his visits to various homes he realised that it was more than ever necessary that funds should be raised for relief purposes. He had seen some distressing cases only that afternoon, and the whole committee promised every assistance.
