RELIEF FUND ALLOCATION

GISBORNE MEETING PROTESTS. DISSOLUTION OF BOARD ASKED. By Telegraph—Press Association. • Gisborne, Last Night. At a well attended citizens’ meeting to-night to discuss relief work allocations the speakers included Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., and the Mayor (Mr. John Jackson). The following resolution was carried unanimously: “This meeting emphatically- condemns the action of the Unemployment Board in recently reducing the Gisborne unemployment allocation, thus driving down the living standard of numerous families below subsistence level. We further condemn the board’s practice of utilising a monopoly of the funds for the purpose of forcing men into camps, entailing separation from their homes. In the interests of relief workers and. the general public we call upon the Minister of Labour to dissolve the Unemployment Board and to assume, full responsibility towards the unemployed and their dependents.”
