PUKEKURA PARK BOARD

WORK DURING THE MONTH. TWQ LAKES FILLED AGAIN. The Pukekura Park Board met last night, Mr. J. McLeod presiding. Others present were Messrs E. R. C. Gilmour, H. Dempsey, F. Amoore, V. C. Davies, C. E. Bellringer, E. J. Carr, F. Parker and P. E. Stainton (honorary secretary). The superintendent (Mr. T. Horton) reported that the lower lake had been completely cleaned and the water was in it again. Many of the fish that had been removed to a small running stream had been returned to the lake. The lily lake had been cleaned and the lilies thinned. A concrete outlet for that lake had been constructed and ponga railing erected. The island had been planted with about 50 trees such as azaleas, hydrangeas and veronicas, as well as native plants. Paths about the lakes had been regraded and metalled. Considerably silt had been removed from the dam near the Brooklands corner. Trees planted in the last few years had been dug around and a pergola had been re-erected in the sportsground. A part of the racecourse walk had been reformed and metalled and the work would be completed at an early date. Boots for use on the Lake had been overhauled and painted. The rhododendrons and azaleas in the dells had been pruned and cultivated. Work had been carried out on the Fillis Street boundary. Wattles on the western side of the main entrance had been cut back. The face of the hill at the eastern end of -the iron fence had been cut back to permit the planting of a hedge. Along the fence line on the flat and opposite the Fillis Street gully a belt of pohutukawa trees had been planted and that would be extended to the boundary.
