An unusual situation arose at the Conciliation Council proceedings this morning when Mr. J. Roberts, the assessor for the Christchurch Saddle, Hamess and Collar Makers’ Union, declined to enter into an agreement on, the basis of wages of Is 9d an hour for journeymen. Mr. Roberts resigned his post as assessor and a new assessor was hurriedly sent for, following which a full agreement was reached. The other union assessors agreed to the employers offer of Is 9d, which Mr. Roberts declared was ridiculous.
