LEES MEMORIAL FUND

JOLL COMPANY VOTES £5O. The sum of £5O was voted by the shareholders of the Joll Dairy Company yesterday s towards a memorial fund to the late Mr. A. Lees. The chairman explained that it was proposed to raise £250 so that a scholarship of £lO at the Hawera High School could be given annually. . ", . . .. In moving the motion to make the grant, Mr. E. J. Betts referred to the great amount of time the late Mr. Lees had given to educational matters, and he thought that the suppliers would be doing a graceful act by showing appreciation of his work in this manner. The motion was carried unanimously. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet at the meeting, the chairman said: “Before I make any comment on the company’s operations I have the painful duty of making reference to the loss we have suffered by the death of our late secretary, t Mr. Lees. Year after year I have been at the annual meeting and seen his familiar figure always prompt and ready with an answer to any question. No ■ one who has not worked with him can possibly realise what a tower of strength he was to this company. He joined us as secretary on September 1, 1908, and died on August 31, 1932, thus completing exactly 24 years of service.”
