MOKAU DISTRICT NEWS
The Waitomo county engineer, Mr. R. H. Brown, recently spent two days inspecting roads in the Mokau district. Two camps have been established on Manganui Road and the men will be employed on general repair work. It is understood that a fair amount of road is to be widened and that two new bridges are to be built on the road. Serious erosion near the. Waikawau tunnel, caused by the recent heavy rains, is to receive attention.
From a farmer’s point of view the winter has been a good one in this district. There. has been no shortage of fodder, and consequently stock is in first-class condition. Lambs are thriving well and the dairy season is beginning earlier than usual. Members of the Awakino Bowling Club held a working bee on the green on .Monday in preparation for the coming season. The green was topdressed and levelled. The season will open about the second week in October.
