EASTERN TARANAKI SCHOOLS

SPORTS ASSOCIATION FORMED.

ANNUAL GATHERING AT MARCO.

In an- endeavour to assist sports in the eastern districts the Eastern Taranaki Primary School Sports Association, consisting ’of the headmaster and twocommittee men from Huiakama, Whangamomona, Marco, Kohuratahi Road, Tahora, Tangarakau and Po-hokura schools, met at Marco Road school on Tuesday. The meeting was fully representative despite the fact that members from one committee had to motor 22 miles and another had to walk, four miles.

Mr. Dean (Whangamomona) presided, and Mr. D. Bates acted as secretary. - Some discussion took place over the venue of the annual meeting, some being in favour of moving from school to school, and others desiring to retain the sports at Marco Road grounds. Most schools were in favour of the latter proposition, owing to the lack of suitable grounds and to the fact that Marco seemed the most central position. On a show of hands it was decided to hold the sports annually at Marco. The date of the next sports meeting Was fixed for the first convenient Friday in March (subject to the Education Board’s approval). It was decided to hold a dance in the Kohuratahi Hall on the evening of this date. A vote of thanks was expressed to the Marco Road Sports Club for the preparation, and use of the grounds. Representation of this body is included in the association, two members attending in the interests of the grounds. A handsome engraved shield has been presented to the association by the Marco Sports Club. These sports have been conducted successfully for the past two years by Mr. R. Bates (Marco school) assisted by the MarcO Sports Club. This year a definite association has been formed giving representation to all schools participating, and it is anticipated that the eastern schools will enjoy the benefits of a sports meeting equally as well as the more central districts that have conducted similar meetings for some years.
