WORKLESS BEING HELPED. Tp an endeavour to assist the needy, of whom there is no small number since the retrenchment by the Public Works Department, several socials have been ' held at the Flat Last Friday the excellent Whangamomona concert party for the eighth time its concert at Tangarakau. From Tahora a free train was run, and as a consequence the hall was packed. A good sum was realised for the unemployed. The local social committee intends to hold a dance for the same cause. Schoolboys* First Loss. Conditions were against the MarcoTahora schoolboys in their endeavour to ’ retain the McMahon Cup for seven-a-side last Thursday. They were against a solid proposition in Toko A and would have had a very difficult task in stopping Toko’s speedy wingers even on a fine x day. The local boys nevertheless played pluckily against their much heavier opponents and were the only ones to cross the winner’s line during the tournament This is the first time this season that the Marco team, which comprised the greater part of the Marco-Tahora team, has been beaten.
Personal Items. Miss C. McCutchan is progressing satisfactorily. Mr. Ronald McCartie is visiting Stratford. Messrs. R. Morton and D. Kerr have commenced their apprenticeship at the Moki Road mill. Mrs. H. Wilkinson is visiting her mother, Mrs. C. Drader senr., New Plymouth.
