PRESS AT DAIRY MEETINGS
TRIBUTES TO ITS GOOD WORK.
KAPONGA CHAIRMAN’S VIEW.
jjy moving a vote of thanks to the Press at the annual meeting of the Kaponga Dairy Company on Tuesday night the chairman (Mr. A. V. Tait) paid tribute to the work of the Press in connection with the dairy industry. “Some factories have cut out their statistics,” he said, “but I think this is a big mistake, with all due respect to the views of the chairmen and directors of these companies. I think the Press is the life and soul of our dairy meetings, and a great deal of good is done by the Press. It is always willing to keep out any personal or confidential matters that it is desired to have with-held, but it will be a sorry day if ever the Press is cut out and we hold pur meetings behind closed doors. So long as I have anything to do with it the Press will always be admitted to our. meetings.” Mr Tait said he felt that a certain amount of harm had been done by correspondents writing harmful, ill-founded letters to the Press. He mentioned as one instance where a letter had appeared in the British Press to the effect that the increase in New Zealand produce would be 40 per cent. The increase would be only about 20 per cent. Such reports were misleading and detrimental.
