The Dunedin City Council last night appointed Mr. C. W. Dunningham, Wellington, as city librarian, the Press Association reports. Mr. W. J. Morrell, rector of Otago Boys’ High School for 27 years, will retire on superannuation at the end of. the year.

The death has occurred at Auckland of Mr. H. Howard, Blenheim, where he was formerly manager of the Colonial Bank, reports a Press Association message. Mr. W. C. Barry, district superintendent of the Live Stock Division, Department of Agriculture, Wellington, is visiting New Plymouth. Mr. L. J. Rundle was last night elected chairman of directors of the Bell Block Dairy Company for the eleventh term. Mr. I. Hall was elected deputychairman.

Mr. C. Foreman was yesterday re-elect-ed chairman of directors of the Tikorangi Dairy Company, a position he has held for 18 years. He has been a director of the company for 23 Mr. A. H. Andrews, an old boy of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, is one of the three students whose names have been submitted by the rector of Canterbury College to the Students’ Association for opinion as to the college’s candidates for Rhodes Scholar ships.

Fitting tributes to his life work of outstanding service to Nelson College were paid Mr. C. H. Broad, retiring principal, at a largely attended old boys’ social in the college dining hall on Tuesday evening, states a Press Association message. A presentation was made on behalf of the Old Boys’ Association. Opportunity was also taken to welcome the new principal, Mr. H. V. Searle, formerly of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, who takes over next term. - Mr. Charles Burnard, who was formerly fields editor, and during the last 16months acting-editor of the New Zealand Dairy Exporter, has been appointed to the editorship of that journal. For years Mr. Burnard was actively engaged in farming in Otago and in the Poverty Bay district, but he found himself more and more engaged in agricultural journalism, so that he decided 10 years ago to devote the whole of his time to that branch of the journalistic profession'.
