TIKORANGI DISTRICT NEWS

SPORT AND PERSONAL. Tire Tikorangi basketball team comprising Dora Metcalf (captain), Doreen Soffe, Maida Soffe, Ila Simpson, Joan Bailey, Joyce Morey, Evelyn Newman, Mollie O’Carroll, Connie Richards and Nora O’Carroll (emergency), drew with Motonui at Motonui on Saturday. Four points were scored by each side. The Tikorangi team was entertained at tea by the home team. A return match may be played next Saturday. Mrs. Lankshear, New Plymouth, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. T. Pruden. Mrs. A. Whitehead and Miss N. Morey have returned from a holiday at Christchurch and Wellington. Miss M. Hill, New Plymouth, is tire guest of Mrs. H. Foreman, Women’s Institute. There was an excellent attendance at the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute. A large number of visitors and members from the newly-formed Motonui Institute were present. Two new members were enrolled. Miss N. Morey, who was the Tikorangi delegate to the Christchurch conference, gave a brief account of the conference and urged all members who could to attend the gathering at Wellington next year. The demonstration for the day was given by four Norfolk Road school girls, of making baskets from beach rushes and raffia. It was most interesting, the girls showing the work in the various stages. much admired. The best sultana cake from a baking ppwder firm’s recipe drew a fair number of cakes. The judges were Mrs. L. Brown and Mrs. George, Norfolk Road. They awarded the first prize to Miss L. Pruden, with Miss N. Morey second and Mrs. H. Foreman third. The afternoon tea tables were artistically arranged by Mrs. Lankshear with spring bulbs, wattle and greenery. The hostesses were Mrs. Beaven and Miss L. Pruden. After tea a novel and very interesting competition arranged by Mrs. Lankshear, “The Art Gallery,” was contested, a number drawing for the prize. The winner was a Norfolk Road school girl.
