The estate of Sir John Ellerman, shipping magnate, has 'been proved provisionally at £1,722,245 entirely cash and Government securities, says the Daily Mail. Over £8,500,000 has already been paid in death duties. When Sir John’s vast interest in the shipping and brewery industries, trust companies and freehold property is assessed the total is expected to reach over £30,000,000. The bequests include £1437 to his butler, £1125 to each chauffeur, £150,000 to his wife with an annuity of £30,000 tax free, and £60,000 to his daughter with £600,000 in trust. The present baronet receives £600,000 cash and £2,000,000 and the residue in trust.

The charitable bequests include £lOO to each important London hospital. The will is so voluminous that it contains a special index.
