Strong opposition to any casing of the restrictions of the importation of stock from Great Britain, which are designed to prevent the introduction of foot-and-mouth disease, was expressed at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Sheep Owners’ Union in Christchurch this week. Criticism was expressed of the recent remarks on the subject by the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and it was stated that tire removal of the restrictions would lead to a grave danger of the disease finding its way into the country.
