WRESTLING BY WOMEN
CHRISTCHURCH SIDESHOW SHUT. OBJECTION BY CITY COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Aug. 15. As the result of a discussion by the city council last night regarding the propriety of a certain side-show in the annexe of the wintei- show in which women wrestlers were said to be participating, members of the by-laws committee met the show executive this morning.
Later at the request of the Mayor (Mr. D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) the side-show was closed. It may submit an alternative programme.
During the discussion one councillor said the wrestling was a crude display and the exhibition was disgusting. On the other hand the show organisers that most of the complaints were based on rumours.
