WOODS PASSES CALCUTTA

SEVERAL FORCED LANDINGS. TROUBLE WITH NATIVES. „ i ■ By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Calcutta, July 19The Australian airman Mr. J. Woods, who is flying to England, arrived at Calcutta to-day and left immediately for Allahabad. The monsoon weather caused the airman to make three forced landings in Burma, and a defective petrol pump caused a fourth .stop. Each time the heavy load of petrol caused the machine to sink into the ground. When he landed in a ricefield the plane was surrounded by natives, who tried to strip the machine, but Woods kept them at bay with a spanner. Before rising he had to jettison 50 gallons of petrol. This almost led to disaster, as somebody set fire to it.' He just manoeuvred his machine out of danger in time.
