CYCLING AT INGLEWOOD

F. FUSSELL THE WINNER. WEIR GAINS FASTEST TIME. The third race of the Inglewood Cycle Club’s cup series was held yesterday, the course being up the Lepper Road to Kaimiro, down the Egmont Road to Egmont Village a back to Inglewood by the main road. A good field faced the starter and the weather was ideal. A very fast pace was set throughout the race, in which four riders were successful in breaking the time record held by C. Parker. At Lepper Road the riders still held their positions as in the handicaps, although the field was closing up fast. At Kaimiro R. Kennedy fell and L. Standing passed and opened a big gap. Kennedy was able to continue and caught Standing one mile down Egmont Road. The scratch men caught O. Belk and E. Stockman at Kaimiro factory. This bunch .then set a great pace down Egmont Road and at one part had reached the great pace of 27 miles an hour. F. Fussell caught the front-markers at Egmont Village. On the main road the field had bunched to two groups. At Keenan’s Hill it looked as though the back bunch would overtake the leading riders, but the front bunch maintained the lead and at the last only a few seconds separated the two bunches. The finish was in Rata Street by the Moa dairy factory, Tire field entered the straight still in two bunches and the finish proved a very interesting struggle to gain the places. A large attendance of the public' and club supporters was present and were rewarded with two very exciting sprints, especially the last one for fastest time, as not a length separated a bunch of riders. W. Weir beat R. Yardley by inches for fastest time. The difference in the time between the first and last riders to cross the line was only 20 seconds, which is a credit to the handicapper, Mr. M. Lawson. The results are:— F. Fussell, IJmin 1, won by a wheel. R. Kennedy, 3f, 2. L. Standing, 3m> 3. W. K. Weir, scr, 4. R. Yardley, scr, 5. O. Belk, fm, 6. E. Stockman, 3m, 7.' Weir thus breaking the record by Im 425. Cup points are: R. Kennedy 5, L. Standing 4, R. Benard 3, F. Fussell 3, C. Burke 2, E. Stockman 1.
