CONTESTS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. PRE-CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES. Amateur boxers, aspirants to provincial honours, will assemble from all over Taranaki to take part in the Taranaki , Association’s first of a series of allamateur tournaments to be held, at the Empire Theatre on Saturday. night i ; ■ Last year, in seeking by means of similar tournaments to find the provincial champions to represent Taranaki at the New Zealand championships (to be held in a few weeks at Blenheim), the events were conducted in the Workers’ Social Hall. So popular were the shows that < space became rather cramped and this year to cater for larger houses in comfort the venue has been changed to the Empire Theatre, Devon Street. The tournament should prove an outstanding success, for almost every boxing school in Taranaki has its representatives anxious to catch the eyes of the selectors.
