MATCHES IN TARANAKI. BLAKE STILL MATMAN. (By “Hammerlock.”) ? Blake is still the ‘busiest wrestler in New Zealand, and perhaps the 'most popular with the possible exception of George Walker. Stratford has Succeeded in matching them to-night and a really good bout should result. Blake put up a very good show against the Empire champion at WhangarOi, which has been their only meeting so far* Mamos and Blake are credited with having put on the best contest ever seen in Hawke’s Bay when they delighted a packed house at Hastings. Both are clever wrestlers who use a wide repertoire of holds to secure their wins. Pereira is estiblisliing a fine reputation for himself. His performance against Walker was very creditable and puts him in line for a match with Rumberg, which would be one of the star, bouts of the year. New Plymouth has very happy memories of the Portuguese wrestler, who showed strength," skill and sportsmanship in his bout with Blake. He and Patterson would be a great match for a Taranaki association. , It is rumoured that Patterson is. rather more seriously indisposed than was at first believed. It has been said that he may not wrestle in New Zealand again this season. The bout at New Plymouth on Saturday was not a very satisfactory one to anyone. The storm kept the crowds awav with the result that the purse was less* than £2O. The wrestlers, particularly Varga, were ’ not in very bright form, so that the spectators saw something a long way below the standard of the Pereira-Blake bout. t _ The New Plymouth association-is handicapped by the high cost of preparing the ring. The- Arena gives it at which makes a big hole in the takings. However, a really good draw has nothfear. ...
