116 BODIES LOSE £20,000 A YEAR. DATA FOR SIX YEARS COMPILED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, July 18. The refusal of the Crown to accept the responsibility for the payment of rates on properties in which it is interested, either as owner or 4 mortgagee, has cost 45 city and borough councils, 55 counties and 16 town boards a total sum of £136,508 in six years. , This is shown in a return presented to-day to the Manukau County Council, which has been compiling data on the question. It sent circular letters to 120 boroughs, 125 counties and 65 town boards. ■ . '
