London, July 17. Wheat cargoes were influenced by strong week-end overseas advices and sellers advanced their limits 3d to 9d. Parcels are firm to 6d dearer. Gold is quoted at £6 4s 3d per ounce compared with £6 3s 4d and £6 4s 2d on July 15 and 14 respectively. SHARP RISE IN RUBBER PRICES. RECORD AMERICAN CONSUMPTION. London, July 17. Rubber rose sharply to-day and touched 41d per lb for spot, the highest since January, 1931. This is attributed to America’s record consumption in June and the prospects of restriction negotiations! A rubber shares advance was consequently the chief feature of the Stock Exchange. TALLOW AND HEMP. LONDON MARKETS QUIET. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated July 15, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow: Market quiet, but steady at about last quotations. Auctions will be held July 19. Hemp:—Manila: Market dull and unchanged at last rates quoted. Output January 1 to July 10, 584,000 bales, against 466,000 same period last year. Stocks in the United Kingdom on June 30, 12,931 bales, against 28,980 same period last year. Stocks in Manila July 10, 131,000 bales, against 108,000 same time last year.
