DAIRY BOARD DUTIES

BETTER SHIPPING SERVICE. INCREASE IN EXPORTS. Carterton, July 14. Seeing to it that the produce was shipped Home under the best possible conditions was one of the Dairy Produce Board’s most important duties, said Mr. Dynes .Fulton, acting-chairman of the board, in the course of an address at a conference of delegates of the No. 5 Ward of the board held at Carterton yesterday. Mr. Fulton referred to the inspecting of vessels and other precautions rigidly enforced by the board. In the new shipping contract, at present being negotiated, said Mr. Fulton, the board had insisted on a better shipping service. A more even arrival of vessels at Home was desirable, while the departure from some New Zealand ports, particularly Auckland, could be greatly improved. Mr. Fulton observed that during the last twelve months there had been a huge increase in dairy produce, .and he paid a tribute to the work of the secretary, Mr. T. C. Brash, and other officials of the board for the very efficient manner in which they had handled the immense volume of work. They had not had one complaint or holdup of any description. As an indication of the amount of work undertaken so successfully by the board’s officials, Mr. Fulton said that for the period August 1, 1932. to July 31, 1933, 5,065,000 boxes of butter and 1,403,300 crates of cheese were exported from the Dominion to all destination. For the corresponding period the previous year the figures were 3,929,287 boxes of butter, and 1,173,104 crates of cheese. This was an increase of 1,135,713 boxes of butter, and 230,196 crates of cheese.
