WOMEN’S DIVISION ACTIVITIES

Hurford Road-Omata: Mrs. Maloney presided. Mrs. J. McCurdy, Te Whaiti, Rotorua, was among the visitors. The roll call response for the meeting was “Your funniest joke.” The branch expressed regret at the loss of a vicepresident, Miss Reynolds, who has gone to Eltham to reside. A successful dance wqg held on July 7 in aid of the branch. Kaimiro Branch: The first birthday of the. Kaimiro branch. was celebrated on July 6 by a gathering of 54 members and friends. The president, Mrs. Pope, welcomed visitors from New Plymouth, Egmont Village and Inglewood, who r*_plied on behalf of their respective branches. The programme commenced with the singing of the “Welcome Song” by the members. The song was composed by the president and brought forth well-merited applause. Community songs, solos and readings, also a competition, “Inglewood Business People,” won by Mrs. G. Marsh, Egmont Village, were enjoyed. A handkerchief competition was won by Mrs. A. Baker. The visitors were given time before tea to inspect the display. of members’ work, which occupied one side of the hall. Afternoon tea was set in the supper room, the tables being decorated by Mrs. H. G. Taylor and Mrs. Eade with red and white paper roses on blue table centres, with vases of green leaves. The birthday cake was made by Mrs. A. H. Taylor and iced by Mrs. Pope, being a replica of the Women’s Division badge. The hostesses were the members of the committee. At night a very enjoyable concert' and dance was held. The chairman was Mr. L. Gopperth. Community singing, : solos, readings, dumb pictures, dialogues, and an amusing charade all contributed by local people, were greatly appreciated. A knitted tea cosy and nest donated by Mrs. M. McAdam was won by Mrs. L.vD. Taylor. Music for the dance was supplied by Mr. J. Shoemark and Mr. L. Schicker was master of ceremonies. Supper was served by the ladies. •
