A new R.A.F. high-speed aeroplane, which can take off and land in half the distance required, by the fast machines now in service, went through its final trials recently before experts at the Handley Page Aerodrome, Radlett, Herts. The new machine has a speed of 146 miles an hour, and can take off within 100 yards, whereas the present high* speed aeroplanes require nearly 200 yards. It can land within sixty yards, or half the distance required by its latest predecessors.
