Auckland, July 13. “After speaking about the frequent thefts pf spare wheels frdm motor-cars, I left the last meeting and < found my own spare wheel had beeri’stolen/’ said Dr. J. Howard Lawry at a meeting of foe council of the Automobile Association last evening. •• - ■ Inquiries showed that the thefts wera being committed on a fairly large scales Dr. Lawry said. When he went to obtain a new wheel, the garage proprietor said he had heard of two owners losing spare wheels and tyres within foe previous two days, and also knew of a motorist who had had a new 17-plate battery removed from his car. “It is foe duty of the association to do something in the matter, and I suggest we offer a substantial reward to any person giving information that results in the conviction of a thief who has stolen members’ wheels dr accessor-’ ies,” he added. It was decided to write to foe superintendent of police in Auckland asking him to take special action in view of the frequency with which such thefts were occurring.
