FRANKLEY ROAD NEWS

CARD PARTY AND DANCE. The Carrington school committee held its monster euchre, cribbage party and dance on Thursday evening. It was a great success both socially and financially, there being 54 players present, while numerous couples enjoyed dancing to Moverley’s orchestral selections. Miss Nola Gilbert and Mr. C. Smith provided extras. The members of the orchestra were Mrs. Moverley (piano), her son (drums) and Mr. Bird (violin). The results of the euchre are as follow: Mrs. R. Cole, Mrs. Blizzard and Miss Smith played off for first and second, Mrs. Cole winning the first prize, a beautiful oak tea-tray. Mrs. Blizzard was second with a pair of towels. They each won 10| games. Mr. Roberts was first with H| games, the prize being a large ashtray stand. Mr. McConnell, who was second with 10 games, won a pair of socks. Mr.. Salisbury won the cribbage prize of a large drawing room ash-tray. Mr. H. Farmer and Mr. W. Card were masters of ceremonies, while Mr. F. Salisbury controlled the games in the large supper room. A. large wooden bowl was won in a guessing competition by Mr. McConnell. At an interval supper was served, and then dancing was resumed till the small hours. Mr. E. Pepperill and his son Sydney are away on a motor tour of South Taranaki and Wanganui. Miss Joyce Harrison and her cousin, Miss Wills, Pukearuhe, are spending a holiday at Eltham. Mr. G. Megan has purchased a small farm at Tikorangi.
