A BRIDE HONOURED. A kitchen tea was given to Miss Betty Morton last week at Mrs. C. McCutchen's residence, Tahora. Fifty guests were present The wedding took place on Wednesday at Auckland. Dancing, games and cards passed a pleasant evening. Music was supplied by Mrs. R. Long (piano), Mr. J. Smaille (violin), and Mr. Peter Payne (mouthorgan). The cards competition was won by Mr. C. Morton. A weU-nlled basket , of kitchen utensils was presented to Miss Morton and good wishes were extended to her for her future happiness. Mr. C. Morton returned thanks. Schools Rugby Match. The Tangarakau school team narrowly defeated the Tahora school on Saturday - at Rugby. Mr. A. C. Nicol accompanied the team and Mrs. McCutchen provided the boys with 'morning tea. A Surprise Win. The Kohuratahi Rugby team had a surprise 'victory over Whangamomona. last Saturday in the first round for the Wipiti Cup. The winning team is a much improved side. To-day Kohuratahi will meet Tahora. The points for the cup are: Kohuratahi 2, Whangamomona 0, Tahora 2. Social Items. Mrs. J. Selby is visiting Stratford. Mrs. G. Cadman, senr. has returned from Coromandel. . School Ground Improvement.■■■ii--The monthly meeting of the: school committee was held on Monday. Cocoa had been served to the children regularly for the past month. Good, progress with the excavating work in the playground done under the No. 5 scheme \ was reported. A track had been cut through and graded to the lower portion ~ of the ground, showing the necessity of removing the summer house and continuing excavation of the higher part of the ground. Discarded*asphalt from the tennis court had been placed on the muddy portion of the assembly area. The tall Jawsoniana trees had been topped. The meeting decided to have the front portion of the horse paddock ploughed under the No. 5 scheme. ! Inquiries regarding a teacher’s resi- ! deuce showed that the Public Works Dej partaient at Tangarakau now had a vacant house under offer to the Education Board, but were awaiting inspection of it by the board members.
