ELTHAM LIBRARY COMMITTEE.

DIFFICULTIES OF FINANCE.

The Eltham library committee will have a credit balance of only £3 4s. when current accounts have been paid. It was stated the rise in the cost of books owing to exchange and sales tax made financing more difficult, and it was hoped that members in arrears with subscriptions would assist the library by early payment The librarian, Miss Cave, reported that in May and June five members withdrew and one new member joined. The cash receipts, the figures for the corresponding months last year being shown in parentheses, were:—May £l5 10s. (£lO 3s. 6d.), June £7 19s. (£8 14s. 83.), increase £5 os. Bd. Eighteen new books were added to the shelves. Fourteen books were still retained by persons who had relinquished membership. A discussion took place regarding the failure of ex-subscribers to return books, and it was agreed that unless these were shortly returned proceedings would have to be taken to recover them. The resignation of Mr. O. H. Bjorngaard was received with regret, and it was decided to record appreciation of his services on the committee. PERSONAL ITEMS. On the eve of his departure to commence business at Kaitoke, North Auckland, Mr. Stan. Robinson was met by a large number of Avon bowlers in the club’s pavilion yesterday and presented with a leather bowling bag. In making the presentation Mr. R. H. White, president of the club, expressed his regret at losing such a consistent member and such a good bowler. He wished Mr. and Mrs. Robinson success in their new sphere of life. Messrs. H. C. North, W. Rudkin, A. E. Moss and A. Dickenson spoke in similar strain. That his experience with the club had been one long association with good sportsmen was a comment made by Mr. Robinson in thanking the club for its gift and in taking his farewell of his fellow members.
