KAPONGA GENERAL NEWS

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. JERSEY CATTLE CLUB. The annual meeting of the Kaponga Jersey Cattle Club was held at Kaponga on Tuesday evening. Mr. S. J. Hollard presided over a good attendance of members. The chairman in his report thanked members for their loyal support, particularly the committee. The annual bull fair in October, 1932, was a success and breeders expressed much satisfaction with the prices obtained. , These were even more satisfactory considering the acute state of the depression which existed at the time. The splendid work of the committee and the secretary contributed largely to the success of the venture. The club had lost the services of Mr. C E Morrissey, who had been transferred to New Plymouth. Mr. Morrissey had done a tremendous amount of work to further the interests of the club. The death of Mr. A. J. Dempsey was a great shock to all and he was greatly missed. These two vacancies had been filled by capable members, Mr. W. A. Betts and Mr.' Dowds, Mangatoki. The field day had been a credit to the club and the attendance was a record. 1 The treasurer (Mr. E. A. Rodie) reported a considerable reduction in the expenses account. The balance last year stood at 13s Id and at the end of the present financial year it amounted to £4 9s 3d. . Ths president congratulated the secretary upon the excellence of his work and he was granted a small honorarium. It was decided to leave the fixing of the date for the 1934 demonstration day in the hands of the committee. Subsequently members were entertained. at supper by Mr. W. A. Betts. FIVE HUNDRED EVENING.
