Mr. Winter, overseer, mentioned that it was proposed that a valve -in the water main should be taken out and tested to endeavour to find what was the cause of leakage when the valves were closed. In a recent burst the water had to be shut off at the intake and all the mains drained before a pipe could be replaced. Certain divisions of the town should be shut pff separately if the valves were acting correctly. The’ overseer in his report for June stated that the 8-inch water main in Rata Street burst on June 14 and it was necessary to replace 24ft. with spiral pipe. Difficulty was experienced in shutting off the water on this section and the main supply had to be .shut down at tile intake. This showed .an increase of 1532 units. The maximum demand for the quarter ended June 30 was 145 k.w., against 150 k.w. for the period ended June 30,' 1932. During the month two additional light points, four heating points, one 2 h.p. motor and one I h.p. motor were installed. A number of repairs had been attended to.
