SHOCK FOR EGG HUNTERS

FOX GUARDING NEST, Two children birdnesting at Lowe Farm, Wem, near Wolverhampton,, recently, had a painful shock while treeclimbing. ’ They were confronted by a vixen fox, which made them jump, hurriedly to the ground. Armed with a pitchfork, one of the farmhands ascended to investigate. Although the fox adopted a menacing attitude he managed to keep it at bay and look inside the nest. It contained two cubs, both alive. The nest had been snugly lined with hay and moss and had evidently made a comfortable home, 12ft. from the ground. As hunting is held in the vicinity it is thought that the fox had used this lair to escape from the hounds.
