UP-TO-DATE WORKERS’ FLATS
PRINCE OF WALES’ LONDON ESTATE
MODEL MODERN BUILDING OPENED.
(British Official Wireless.) Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, July 11.
The Prince of Wales this afternoon opened two blocks of London’s most up-to-date workers’ flats erected on waste ground on his own Duchy of Cornwall estate at Kennington. The buildings, regarded as a model of their kind, are in the form of a square with balconies around each floor and gardens in the middle. The design, adopted at the special instance of the Prince, includes tiled fireplaces, hot water in bathrooms and washable walls. Threeroom flats will be rented at 15s a week and large flats at £l. The buildings will house 92 families and the front will be floodlit at night.
