PUNGAREHU NEWS

On Saturday evening twenty pupils from the Pungarehu school journeyed to New Plymouth to sing from ; the radio station 2YB. Accompanying the children were Mr. A. Roots (headmaster) Mr. E. H. Gray and Mr. S. Armstrong. Included in their programme was a number of Maori songs and chants. Another series of euchre parties and dances commenced on Saturday night. The profit is again for the hall benefit. The attendance was as usual quite fair. The prizes were won by: Ladies, Mrs. Re Tai .1, Miss M. Brophy 2. Mr. J. Jones, Mr. P. Barrett and Mr. H. Gilhooly tied for Ist and 2nd prizes m the mens’ section. Pungarehu basket-bailers had a bye on Saturday. Next Saturday they play Te Kiri. The team to play will be: Misses Cis Brophy, Marjorie Symons, Joan Newport, Pearl Brennan, Haimah Doody, Ivy Gray, May Brophy, Cassie Te Whiti and Elizabeth Gilhooly (Capt.) There are now over forty members belonging to the Cape Egmont golf club. PERSONAL. Miss Duggan,, Normanby, is the guest of Miss K. Aylward and Mrs. B. Doyle. Mr. T. Brophy motored through to Hawke’s Bay on Sunday.
