GOOD FIELD IN CUP. INGLEWOOD CLUB’S ACTIVITIES. \ (By “Toe Clip.”). With tha Inglewood club’s trial-series over, it was pleasing to see a big fie)d ; last week for the first race of the club’s challenge cup series. The cup is at pre-' sent held by C. Burke. On the form of last week’s race, this road season’s rac-' ing will be of a high standard. ■ There, should be an interesting battle to top; tile ; ladder. The series is of 16 races,; varying from 6 miles to 55 miles, and held every Thursday: afternoon from: July to October. Burke’s Fine-Record. Several of the Inglewood club’s members competed in the 27| mile race held by the New Plymouth club. G. Darker and C. Burke gained first and second fastest times respectively. Parker’s performance was a fine one. The last.six. miles he rode in champion style. So fari this season in his club races he has gained first and fastest time and second fastest time—an indication of his promise. Burke lias started the road season well. In last week’s race he broke the previous record by 21. seconds. Burke’s placing’s' to date are: .Track, .1932-33, 98 starts for 25 firsts, 25 seconds, 18 thirds and 30 unplaced. C. Parker as holder of three New Zea-I land track championships, helps to place Inglewood on the map of the cycling world. Foote is a well built cyclist and rides with determination. -He has not yet struck 'form but' should shortly prove a hard man to beat. He has a wonderful burst -of speed in a sprint. A. Mackie, O. Belk, D. Coleman, E. Stockman and L. Volzke are all capable of gaining fastest time honours and will make things very merry for scratch men. F. Fussell is developing into a first-class cyclist. So far this season he has registered one fastest time. H. Graham and R. Kennedy have shown wonderful improvement and last week were placed second and third. R. Bernard, a newcomer, deserves congratulation for his fine victory in last week’s race,’his,second start. L.- Standing is a keen rider and won the first race of the season. Last week he had peddle trouble and retired. On his last year’s form, and his performance so far this season he is in the running for a first placing. J. Zimmerman, F. Belk, V. Robson and E. Standing will soon be making a reappearance in the club’s races. R. Mace, winner of the Hanwright Cup series, and’ L. Mace, winner of the juvenile medaL are in training. Hints on Training. Medical fitness is essential,, and then exercises, brisk walking and skipping. Training rides should not be “straining rides, but runs over short distances with a gradual increase in speed and distance with increasing fitness. For the distance, the best gear to push it a 79.
