RELIEF IN NORTH TARANAKI

UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the North T ® r^ ki Unemployment Committee was held at New Plymouth yesterday. Those present were Messrs. J. Brown (chairman), J. S. Coilnett, W. G. Reid, W. A. Thomas and C. r. Smith (secretary). The Unemployment Board advised that provided the available relief labour was not required for work of a more urgent or reproductive nature there was no objection to relief labour being made available to the Taranaki Jockey Club for the laying down of two sports grounds on a part of the racecourse, subject to arrangements being made with the local employing authority. An application for a representative on the committee v(as made by the National Union of Relief Workers through Mr. B. Thome, Taranaki, provincial secretary. Consideration of the request was deferred for consideration by a larger meeting of the committee than was then present.
