TARANAKI EXECUTIVE MEETS SCHOOL PROSPECTS AT STRATFORD J. THOMSON CASE DISPOSED OF. The executive of the Taranaki Football Association met at New Plymouth last night. . Present were Messrs J. W. Hollows ■ (chairman), W. Johnston, R. J. Page,.G. E.’Roper, J. S. Paton, W. Howie,’ W. Shepherd and J. W. Chapman (secretary). Others present by the courtesy of the executive were Messrs G. Lawrence, A. H. Bensley, E. Gordon,' E. Kenny, ’P. Wilmshurst, R. Swan, J. Thomson and R. Roper. The resignation of Mr. A. H. Suthon was accepted with regret and Mr. V. Parkinson was appointed to the vacancy. Mr. Roper agreed to broadcast talks on Soccer from station 2YB New Plymouth. His first subject would be “The Organisation of Association Football in Schools.” He was authorised to make his own arrangements with the station. The Stratford .Club wrote nominating Messrs D. Benjamin and R. Trueman to assist in the conduct of football in the junior grade and in the schools. They would attend to all work in Stratford suggested by the executive committee. There • were no school teams at Stratford, but there were prospects of teams being started at the Convent School and from boys at the Main School. The teachers at the.Tokaora and Waingongoro Schools, both of which were only a short distance from Stratford, had applied for balls. It was therefore asked that three balls should be sent for distribution in order that teams might be formed. A copy of the rules wds also asked for. It was decided to supply the footballs and to refer the letter in general to the Primary Schools’ Football Association. ’SRI ANGULAR CUP CONTEST. The chairman reported on the tour of the representative team 'to Palmerston North last week-end. He said that it was ■generally agreed that the match had •been the most brilliant representative fixture seen Palmerston North. He paid a tribute to the members of the Manawatu Association for the manner in which they had cared for the visitors. The officials of the Taranaki and Manawatu Associations had discussed the method of conducting the annual triangular 'contests between the Wanganui, Manawatu- : and Taranaki Associations, and-it had been decided to play “home and home” matches this- season. That would mean that Manawatu and Wanganui would play matches in Taranaki this year and that Taranaki would play an-, other match away—against Wanganui at Wanganui. There. was a possibility of a trophy for the competition being presented from Palmerston North. » •

Mr. Hollows reported on- the action of two representative players ifi delaying the party’s departure from Wanganui. It was decided to ask the players concerned to explain their conduct at the next meeting of the association, Messrs- Hollows and Roper 'both expressing the opinion that it was essential for the proper discipline of the team on tour that members should implicitly observe the. instructions of the manager. ' (

On the motion of Mr. Paton a vote .of thanks was passed-to Mr. Hollows for his capable management of the tour. A further vote of thanks was passed to Mr. R. J. Page for allowing his car to be used at short notice; and ; it was decided to send letters of appreciation to the Manawatu Association and to Mr. T. Hurley, licensee of the Imperial Hotel, Wanganui, for what he had done for the team and its supporters. The New Plymouth sportsground committee wrote that until the Taranaki Rugby Union fixtures were known the use of Pukekura Park by the Association could not be granted. As far as the committee knew on July 5 (the date of the letter). there would be no date available before the last Saturday in October. The association would be informed when there was anything to report. . The chairman reported that it would not be possible to obtain- Western- Park for -the / Wanganui-Taranaki match. The. chairman. -and secretary were authorised to go , into the question of ' obtaining a ground ■ for the match. It was suggested that. Taranaki might travel to Wanganui first, so that the other two ' matflies could be played in Taranaki towards the end .of the season. A PLAYER CENSURED. In committee the executive considered the report of the referee (Mr. R. Swan) on his action in ordering J. Thomson (Moturoa) off the field at Fitzroy in the match against Waitara on July 1. The Moturoa Club submitted a resolution and made representations in support, and Thomson explained his view of the matter. It was decided to, censure Thomson, but to take no further action, as it was considered he had been sufficiently punished in being stood down from the Taranaki team last, week-end.

The Moturoa Club will be asked" to explain the, action of its team in “counting, out”, the referee after a match. The New Zealand Football Association wrote that at ’a meeting of the council the. question of players reported by referees for- misbehaviour on the field were discussed. The rules of the New Zealand Association provided that evidence taken at the hearing should be -forwarded to<tlie council, but this would now be waived and the decision only .forwarded. Members of the council felt that by having the decision only it would save the secretaries a considerable amount of time. If a player appealed against his suspension it would then be necessary, for the .full report of the evidence to be forwarded. The council would also retain the right to apply for any evidence it considered necessary in the case of the serious suspension passed upon players.. " , A further letter from the New Zealand' Association stated that for this season the primary schools’ team’s tour .of Australia had been abandoned. The proposed tour of New Zealand by an Australian ’ team had been abandoned, but would. take place next season. Mr. ■J. Wr Walls, of the staff of the Wellington Technical College, had been appointed to represent the secondary schools on the council of the New Zealand Association. The Chatham Cup draw having been forwarded to associations, it was asked that matches should be played by the dates suggested. In reference to school football, the New • Zealand Football -Association forwarded six referees’ charts. It was decided to apply to the council of the New -Zealand Association for a further supply of footballs.
