At the wool sales 9297 bales were offered, including 2638 from New Zealand, and about 4530 were sold. The brisk demand continued and the bulk of the offerings sold at full recent rates. New Zealand prices: Scoured Merinos, Mount Hutt, top 23id., average 22d.; greasy crossbred, Pahaunui, top 10d., average 7 5-sd. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated July 8, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow: Fair demand at auction, 865 casks offered, of which 296 sold. Present spot quotations are: Mutton, fine 255.; beef, dark to dull, 18s. 6d. to 19s. 6d.; sweet and/or mixed, 21s. 6d. to 235. 6d. Others unchanged. Hemp: Manila, market quiet but firm. “K” grade for August-October shipment value £l6. Sisal, market quiet but firm. No. 1 for August-October shipment value £l7 17s. 6d.
