ACTIVITIES OF W.D.F.U The monthly meeting of the Opunake branch of the W.D.F.U. was held on Monday, Mrs. W. L. F. Chambers presiding over, a good attendance of members. The president welcomed as new members Mesdames Barney, Stark and Ross. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs. Marcroft in the death of her sister. Mesdames J. Young and F. Julian reported assisting a needy family with clothing for four boys. Mrs. Chambers reported on' assistance given to another family in need. A letter of thanks was received from a case previously assisted. An invitation to the first birthday tea was received from New Plymouth, also an invitation to the birthday tea of the Alton-Kakaramea braneji. Mrs. R. Campbell reported on the special meeting held to make arrangements in conection with the annual dance. Afternoon tea was dispensed at the close of the meeting. Farewell to Guild Member. On Monday afternoon the members of the Anglican Ladies’ Guild gathered at the vicarage to bid farewell to Mrs. R. Urbahn who is leaving the district to reside in Wellington. Mrs. Des Forges voiced the regret felt at Mrs. Urbahn’s departure and asked her to accept a bible, as a mark of esteem* The Rev. A. J. Farnell spoke of the great interest Mrs. Urbahn had taken in everything connected with the church and wished her success in the future. Mrs. Urbahn in thanking the Guild members and Mr. Farnell,. said that she had found great pleasure in what she had been able t 6 do for the church. She said the church at Opunake held many memories for her, as three of her Children had been confirmed there, two had been married there and three grandchildren had received baptism in the church. Afternoon tea® was provided by the Guild members. Two Euchre Parties. A euchre party was held in St. Patrick’s Hall on Thursday night in aid of Catholic church funds. The prizewinners were Mesdames J. Geary, W. Conaglen senr., Messrs G. Holmes jr. and J. A. Stevenson. A competition for a sheep was won by Miss DeCastrp. A dainty supper was provided, Mrs. A. Hickey being the hostess. A euchre party promoted by the Anglican ladies guild was held in the Parish Hall on Monday night. Mesdames C. Majndonald 1 and H. IL Gilshnan 2 were the successful ladies, the men’s prizes going to Messrs F. Nuemann and D. Johnston. Supper was provided, the hostesses being Mesdames G. Hammond and R. E. Peat.
