SOCIAL AND PERSONAL NEW PLYMOUTH ITEMS. Mrs. T. C. Fookes and Miss Mary Fookes returned on Monday from a holiday spent at Palmerston North. Mrs. A. Mac Diarmid- Manaia, and her mother, Mrs.. C. Curtis, will leave today on a tour of the North Island. Miss Marguerite Drader has returned from a visit to Dannevirke. Miss Avis Pauli has returned from Palmerston North, where she was the guest of Mrs. L. H. Collinson. Miss R. Renaud will leave this morning to spend a holiday at Auckland. Miss Jessie Home has returned from a brief visit to Wellington. Mr?. L. M- Stephenson has returned to Opunake after a visit to her mother, Mrs. F. J. Carthew. Mrs. Cyril Hart, Stratford, was a visitor to New Plymouth this week. Miss N. Ross, who is on the nursing staff of the New Plymouth public hospital, has returned from a short holiday at WellingtonMrs. Rudd, Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. G. Neal. Lady Skelton, England, Mrs. Noel Adams, Auckland, and Mrs. E. Zukeman, Auckland, were guests at the Criterion last week-end. Mrs. Alee. Watson, Melbourne, and Mrs. W. Soley, London, are visitors to New Plymouth this week. Miss Ernestine Fookes. entertained about 30 guests at a dinner party at the Criterion and later at an informal house-dance on Monday evening to celebrate her coming-of-age. For the occasion she wore an attractive frock of chiffon velvet in a shade of crushed strawberry, with little coatee. Mrs. G. Gayton was hostess at a bridge and five hundred evening for Miss B. Gay ton on Saturday last. Mrs. Ivan Clarke, Auckland, Mrs. Lt Barnes, Raetihi, Mrs. F. Clarke, Te Aroha, and Mrs. Victor Clarke, Hawera, are visitors to Nev; Plymouth for. the Clarke-Gayton wedding, which takes place this evening. Miss Betty Parry, Mount Bruce, Wairarapa, and Miss Strong, Wairarapa, who are on a motor tour, are the guests of Mrs. Humphries, Ngarriotu Beach. Mrs. W. C. Weston has left on a visit to Mrs. C. H. Weston, Wellington. Mrs. A. L. .Humphries. has returned from a visit to Mrs. Athol Wilson, nganui;’Mrs. S. C. Tonks and Miss Cushla Tonks, Hawera, were visitors to New Plymouth during the week. Sister Eileen Bolton, of the nursing staff of the New Plymouth public hospital, who for the past six months has been training at Alexandra Home, Wellington, has 1 received advice that she has passed the State maternity examination with honours. Crosby left for Auckland last week for a short holiday. Mrs. A. A; Stewart is visiting Auckland. Mrs. W. M. Peacock is spending a brief, holiday at Hamilton. NORMANBY ITEMS. Mr. and Mrs. F. Pidgeon are spending a few weeks’ holiday at Nelson. Mrs. Cowie and family have left the district to reside at Waverley. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Peach and family have gone to live at Nolantown. Miss Allan paid a short visit to Auckland last week. Mr. and. Mrs. Hopcroft are away on their annual holidays. Miss Powell has gone to Hamilton. FAREWELL AT OPUNAKE. St. Barnabas’ Guild members on Monday farewelled Mrs. Urbahn, who is leaving Opunake to reside at Wellington. The Rev. A. J. Farnell praised Mrs. Urbahn’s church work and asked Mrs. F. Des Forges, the oldest member, of the guild, to present Mrs. Urbahn with a leather-bound Bible. Mrs. Urbahn said she was sorry to leave Opunake and St. Barnabas’ Church, in which three of her children had been confirmed, two married, and all her grandchildren christened.
