GIFT EVENING AT RAHOTU

BENEFIT TO LOCAL FAMILY. There was a fair attendance at the Rahotu Hall last night, when a “community” sing and gift evening was held as a benefit to Mr. and Mrs. E. Corrie, Rahotu, who lost their home by fire. Mr. R. Inder presided. The community singing was led by Mr. T. P. Hughson jun. and Mr. R. Hughson jun., Opunake. Vocal solos were given by Mesdames Les Des Forges, Opunake, W. Hopkins and Rahui Murray, Rahotu, a violin solo by Mrs. T. N. Watt, Opunake, and a mouthorgan solo by Mr. Wallace, Okato. The accompaniments were played by Miss L. Gilhooly, Pungarehu, and Mr. T. Richards, Opunake. The large number of gifts were presented to the guests by the chairman, Mr. E. Corrie expressing thanks on behalf of his wife and family. Mr. R. Inder thanked all who had assisted to make the social so enjoyable and so successful, particularly the performers who had come from a distance.-
