PARAPHERNALIA IN COURT.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, July 10.

Before the magistrate (Mr. E. D. Mosley) this morning, 28 Chinese appeared on charges under the Gaming Act and Dangerous Drugs Act, the result of a police raid on a house in Madras Street yesterday. Not for many years has such a comprehensive display of articles adaptable for gambling purposes been seen at Christchurch. The display filled two tables and included mah jongg sets, pakapoo tickets, counters and opium smoking instruments. All the Chinese were remanded, until Monday next, bail being allowed. The police said that no resistance was offered to the raid.
