REPRESENTATIVE LEAGUE

TARANAKI TO PLAY HAWKE’S BAY. ACCEPTANCE OF THE INVITATION. An invitation to send a League football team to Napier to play Hawke’s Bay on July 29 was received by the Taranaki Rugby League from the Hawke’s Bay League and was accepted at a meeting of the Taranaki executive last night. Those present were Messrs. V. Simpson (chairman), J. R. Sceats, H. W. Lawrence, M. Julian, G. Blanchard, T. Smith, J. Abbott, G. Hooker, R. Cole, J. Eriwata and A. Adam (secretary). Mr. N. H. Kyle, delegate for Taranaki to the New Zealand Rugby League Council, wrote stating it was doubtful if the North Island v. South Island match would be staged this year. The New Zealand Council advised that Taranaki’s challenge for the Northern Union Cup was accepted and that the Taranaki Centre would be advised of the date later. The < Wellington Rugby League wrote asking for a game between a good Wellington team and a Taranaki representative or leading club team. Consideration of the letter was held over to a latexdate. The selectors were instructed to make the selection of the team to play Hawke’s Bay on July 29 as soon as possible. Mr. Lawrence was appointed manager of the team to travel to Hawke’s Bay. Arrangement of transport was left to Mr. Hooker. The executive decided to hold a seven-a-side tournament on July 29 and to give a set of miniature cups to the winners.

The Inglewood Club was granted permission to play a match against the Ngaruawahia Club at Inglewood on August 19.

Mr. N. B. Bellringer was appointed auditor to the league.

It was decided that Mr. Lawrence be added to the emergency committee of Messrs. Hooker, Julian, W. J. Smith, Simpson and Adam. The emergency committee is to meet every week and full executive meetings are- to be held monthly. Mr. A. Lile is to be thanked for his donation which it was suggested by the executive should be used for the purchase of a trophy to be awarded to the winners of the senior championship competition.

CLUB AND PROVINCIAL MATCHES.

The following fixture list was drawn up by the meeting of the Taranaki Rugby League executive last night:— July 15: Inglewood v. Eastern Suburbs, at Western Park, 2.45 p.m.; Western Suburbs v. Waitara, at Western Park, 1.30 p.m.

July 22 (close of competition): Inglewood v. Western Suburbs, at Inglewood, 2.45 p.m.; Eastern Suburbs v. Waitara, at Western Park, 2.45 p.m. July 29: Taranaki v. Hawke’s Bay, at Napier; seven-a-side tournament, Western Park.

August 5: Western Suburbs v. Waitara, at Waitara, 2.45 p.m.; Eastern Suburbs v. Inglewood, at Western Park, 2.45 p.m. August 12: Taranaki v. Auckland, at Western Park.
