MOTHER AND DAUGHTER

REUNION-AFTER 18 YEARS.

A REMARKABLE STORY.

An extraordinary story of the meeting of a mother and her daughter after 18 years of separation has been revealed at Liverpool, New South Wales. About 18 years ago the woman’s husband was killed in an accident in Sydney, and three weeks later his daughter was born. The mother, after a short while, suffered a nervous breakdown, and was in a serious state of health for a number of years. In the meanwhile the baby was adopted by a kindly couple, both of whom, after a number of years, died. The girl, who was then about 12 years of age, was placed in St. Anne’s Orphanage, Liverpool, under the charge of Sisters of Charity, where she has remained since. In time the mother completely recovered from her illness and set out in search of her lost daughter, who she believed had been kidnapped. Searching in the neighbourhood of her former home, she could find no trace or news of the child. The mother then travelled through various States, but without success. On a recent Sunday evening, dn coming from an. evening church service in the city, the mother chanced to mention the loss to a woman, who remembered meeting the girl at the orphanage at Liverpool. The mother lost no time in seeking her long-lost daughter, and, after inquiries and explanations, they both wept with joy at the meeting.
