GORE MAN SERIOUSLY HURT HIS NOSE-DIVE FROM 300 FEET. PLANE SMASHED BEYOND REPAIR. DISASTROUS DEMONSTRATION.' By Telegraph—Press Association. Gore, Last- Night. The career of David Cross as an amateur aviator was temporarily suspended as the result of his home-made aeroplane nose-diving into a turnip field at Otamita to-day. Mr. Cross built his own machine, which he successfully flew on several occasions over short distances. This afternoon when he was giving a demonstration flight while a hunt meeting was in progress the plane nose-dived out of control from about 300 feet and was damaged beyond repair. Mr. Cross was fortunate to escape with his life. He was pulled from the wreckage by the spectators. He suffered a fracture of the nose, cheekbone and ankle and numerous abrasions and was taken to hospital. The injured man is 23 years old, a son of Mr .Gerald Cross, a fanner of Chatton.
